How We Research

Updated on

Every guide on The Sauna Solution starts with one question: will this product fit the way you plan to use it? For a sauna, that means the space you have, the heat you prefer, who will use it and what setup it needs.

Here is how we answer it.

1. We start with the person and the place

A large outdoor sauna may not suit a small indoor space. A portable sauna may be easier to store, but it can feel different from a traditional cabin.

We check capacity, dimensions, installation needs, power or fuel requirements, and whether the product is meant for indoor or outdoor use. For cold plunges, hot tubs, showers and other equipment, we consider where it will sit and what connections or upkeep it needs.

2. We compare specs and features

We look at the details makers list, including heat source, temperature range, materials, controls, warm-up time, included accessories and warranty terms. For portable saunas and red light devices, we also note how they are powered, stored and cleaned.

Makers describe their products in their own words, so we name the brand for every claim. We point out when an important detail is missing or unclear.

3. We look at buyer feedback

We read what buyers report after using a product. We look for patterns, like uneven heating, difficult assembly, limited space, leaks, parts that wear out or controls that stop working.

One angry review doesn't sink a product. A pattern does.

4. We score each product

Our score weighs specs, features and buyer feedback against what you're shopping for. A compact infrared sauna may suit one reader, while another needs a traditional sauna with room for several people.

Scores spread out on purpose. A 10 is rare.

5. We keep pages up to date

Products change, and some disappear from stores. Makers sometimes sell close models under similar names, so we check each model name, its listed features and what comes in the box.

We skip products with unclear details or a known recall. When we update a guide, the "Updated on" date at the top changes with it.

What our picks are not

Our picks are based on research, not hands-on tests. We don't claim to have used every product we cover.

Saunas and wellness equipment can involve heat, electricity, water or other safety considerations. Follow the maker's instructions, and consult a qualified professional about installation or questions related to your health.
